  • Weirdos On Your Desktop

    0

In honor of the 100th fan of BryanMoats.com on Facebook, I am letting loose these wierdos who would prefer to live on your desktop background than in my hard drive anymore. No sudden movements, however. And they may mess with your iTunes or something when you’re not looking. Watch for strange playlists.

  • Freebie Desktop Background

Old man Willy, owner of the only gas station since the last one, taught me two important things before he passed on to the great full-service station in the sky.

    1. People like free computer desktop background images.

    and

    2. People like to rhyme people’s names with things that make them laugh.

That explains “Cryin’ Bryan” for sure. But it doesn’t explain “You’re In The Way Moats.” Still, I took both of those lessons to heart and will be providing all of my BryanMoats.com Facebook fans with a free desktop image for their computer once I reach 100 fans. The above and below thumbnails are a sneak peek.

Oh, yeah. Old Man Willy also made it clear that people liked sneak peeks.

In the Great Opossum War of ‘Round About Now, nobody fought harder for the sake of the cats than Gangster. His legacy lives on forever. Amen.

  • Ice Cold Bears

This time of year, when the heat gets bad, I retreat deep into my imagination to a place with a slight breeze, no metrics to meet and every friend has a bottle opener hanging from the keychain on his belt. In the daydream, the family and I and some friends have found a perfect patch of shade to drop our blanket, bags, and coolers. We each find a spot that suits us best to sit, the base of a tree, a corner of the blanket, a folding chair, a loved one’s lap.

A couple of the dudes are tossing a football back and forth a little further out in the field, a mix of wildflowers and field grasses obscuring their TOMS, and the ball when someone fumbles a catch.

When the ladies are finished assembling a delicious combination of Kavli crackers, goat cheese, sun-dried tomatoes and spicy olive snacks, we all crowd in for our share. I open the cooler – and that’s when we all fall into a hearty round of “Fun With Regional Dialect”. It goes like this…

“Hey! Moatsie! If you idn’t jeeust too busy over thur, whah don’ you toss me wunna demice cold bears!”

    then,

“Gimme a sec an’ ahl doit they’re so gull dern fridgid.”

    so,

    “Fahnen. Whudever. Wish yoo’d kweeit.”

I hope you all enjoy this drawing today.

  • A Scripture Picture – Deer Pants

    2

Enjoy the first installment of “A Scripture Picture”, a few fun takes on familiar and not so familiar scripture. Not too “versed” in the Bible? That’s okay. Nor am I. Just don’t take it too seriously, and you’ll have a good time.

  • GTD for Kids

    1

GTD-for-Kids_BeforeRecently it occurred to me that one of the first tools I adopted to help me understand the passage of time was the cartoon. Over time, cartoons and sit coms became my reference for how long something might last. During the years of Saturday morning cartoons, followed by after-school shows and then sit coms, the half-hour became the gauge in which I measured the length of all other things.

How long long will we be at the doctor, mom? An hour? Why, that’s as long as it takes to watch the Cosby Show twice. How long have I been in Math class? 15 minutes? Thundercats would have been half over by now. Why does it feel like I’ve been in here for at least three episodes of Thundercats, then?

This may have been my introductory tool to time management, but it was merely the first of many. When I was diagnosed with A.D.D. two years ago, I realized that over the years I have utilized all sorts of random tools to help me manage my time. Some of those things have worked, others have not. Daytimers, wall calendars, watches, alarms and alerts, cellphones, teachers, parents, friends, etc. But it wasn’t until I finally read Getting Things Done that I really wrapped my arms around the need to have a tight methodology and a clear personal understanding of how to handle time, as well as the things I have to do with my time. That was just last year.

I often think how nice it would have been if I had learned some of the fundamentals of GTD and time management in general when I was young and busy discovering that church is about two Scooby-Dos long.

So, who will be the one who brings time management ideas to a younger audience? My children will be the ones who are going to be juggling whatever crazy schedules life has for them as they grow. It is almost guaranteed it will be more complex than they are even today. How are they going to learn to get things done?
